Attorney Louise T. Truax, of Reich & Truax, PLLC, in Southport, Connecticut has practiced family law for over 30 years.  She has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2005.  The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) is a nationwide organization composted of the best and brightest Family Law Attorney’s in the nation.  Attorney Truax represents clients in dissolution and custody actions, post judgment proceedings, appeals, and has served as an attorney for minor children and a guardian ad litem.  Attorney Truax focuses on the needs of each individual client, treating them with the skill and compassion they need in these difficult matters, while also engaging in thorough preparation of all of her cases.  Most often clients are served well in settling their matter.  However, certain cases may need to be tried to conclusion, an arena in which Attorney Truax is a skilled advocate.

Attorney Truax is very involved locally and nationwide in family law organizations.  She is the past chair of the Connecticut Family Law Section and the Connecticut Chapter of the AAML.  Attorney Truax was the national Treasurer and CLE Chair for the AAML, resulting in her receiving the prestigious Fellow of the Year in 2014.  She has served on committees in the AAML, which culminated in two AAML Publications, Child Centered Residential Guidelines and Representing Children: Standards for Attorneys for Children in Custody or Visitation Proceedings. 

Attorney Truax is the General Editor and author of three Chapters in the book LexisNexis Practice Guide: Connecticut Family Law, published in 2013 and which she updates annually.  Attorney Truax served on the Board of Editors for the Connecticut Family Law and as Editor in Chief from 2006 – 2014.

Attorney Truax has lectured on a variety of family law topics in Connecticut and across the country.  She has lectured in each of the Biannual seminars for the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, on a variety of topics including Motion Practice. Business Valuation, Evidence, Equitable Distribution, and Custody Issues.  At the Biannual seminar jointly sponsored by the Association for Family and Conciliation Courts and AAML, Attorney Truax has spoken in each seminar since 2011 on complex custody issues such as the refuse/resist dynamic, trauma, and children’s voices in the courts.  Attorney Truax has also lectured annually on the Recent Case Law Developments in Family law for the Fairfield County Bar Association.

Attorney Truax is currently the Board President  for Overcoming Barriers (OCB), a non-profit organization dedicated to the education of professionals in refuse/resist dynamic cases.  OCB has created courses to take on line, produced publications to help professionals and families confronted with the refuse resist dynamic, and created a program to take to individual jurisdictions to train lawyers, judges and mental health professionals to work as a team to best resolve these cases.
