    With over 250 hours in advanced mediation and collaborative trainings, and hundreds of unique cases from over 25 years of practice, Susan brings a wealth of experience to her work.  She is motivated to not only help clients create agreements that honor family priorities and avoid the emotional and financial costs of litigation, but also agreements that allow individuals to thrive post-divorce. Her prior experience in civil and family litigation and trusts and estates practices provides a background to understand complex financial issues.  Her training as a pastoral counsellor and meditation instructor helps her work with individuals and families moving through a difficult transition. As the founder of the Law Offices of Susan Busby, LLC, Susan uses non-adversarial, conflict resolution techniques to assist divorcing or separating clients resolve issues involving parenting plans, custody, asset and debt division, child support, alimony, college education, prenuptial agreements and other family related legal issues.

    Susan received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from McGill University. She went on to graduate with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

    Over the years, Susan has served as a Special Master (volunteer mediator) in court, and in the court’s early intervention program for high-conflict parents. She also is a volunteer mediator for the Families in Transition program at the Children’s Law Center of Connecticut. She is a guest lecturer at various educational institutions and the author of several articles on family law-related topics.

    In addition to running her law firm, Susan sits on the board of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce and Nalandabodhi.

    Ms. Busby stays informed and active in her legal community through membership in various professional organizations. She belongs to the Hartford County Bar Association, the Association of Professional Family Mediators, the Connecticut Bar Association, Collaborative Divorce Lawyers Association, Connecticut Collaborative Divorce Group, Collaborative Divorce Professionals, Association of Professional Family Mediators, and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
