Derek E. Donnelly

Licensed to practice law in Connecticut for about 13 years, Derek E. Donnelly is a partner and attorney at Blackburn & Donnelly, LLC. He chairs its Government Law and Real Estate departments. In the areas of New Haven and Hartford County, he serves clients primarily in real estate law, along with government law, insurance, subrogation, insurance and civil litigation.

Before venturing into the field of law, Mr. Donnelly worked as the legislative director for the City of Hartford. There, he supervised the transactions between public policy and the different levels of the legislature. He is also a real estate agent who closes hundreds of deals annually.

Invaluable experience gained in the field of municipal law aided Mr. Donnelly in the successful litigation of many cases in this field. The knowledge assimilated while working with the state and local government helps him assist clients in both out-of-court settlements and trials. He serves as the town counsel for Suffield and East Granby.

In addition, Mr. Donnelly assists private clients in disputes with the authorities and provides general counsel services to a variety of business clients. He also represents local governments in matters related to tax appeals and pensions.

A B.A. degree graduate in political science from James Madison University, Mr. Donnelly completed his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2006. He also received an additional certificate in public administration at Trinity College.

A socially committed citizen, Mr. Donnelly is the chairman of the Advancement Committee of the Enfield Montessori School. He was on the board of community organizations such as Educational Resources for Children Inc., and a member of the Town of Suffield Zoning Board of Appeals and the Board of Finance.
