May Cain is a former Judge in Miami-Dade County, who was appointed to the bench in 1990 by the Governor of Florida. She now concentrates her practice in all areas of complex family law matters. They include: dissolution of marriage; domestic violence; custody disputes; child support; paternity; prenuptial agreements, post nuptial agreements and domestic partnerships. She is an experienced trial attorney in civil litigation and has handled hundreds of appeals. She is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Law Mediator.
May is an educator and was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Barry University from 1986 - 2020. She created a Family Law class for Barry University and taught many legal subjects. She is a frequent lecturer for Continuing Legal Education and Continuing Mediation Education programs.
May is a Past President of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL), Miami-Dade Chapter and continues to act as a mentor to members of the organization. She is President of the Miami-Dade FAWL Scholarship Foundation which raises funds for law student scholarships. She was the second woman in the history of the Florida Bar to Chair the Editorial Board of the Florida Bar Journal and News, where she is still an active member. She has served on the Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee, on the Executive Council of the General Practice Section of the Florida Bar, served on the Family Law Section Rules Committee, Lawyer Referral Service Committee and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. May has been Guest Editor for special issues of the Florida Bar Journal. She has served as a Hearing Officer for the Miami-Dade County School Board. May also served on the Parents Council at the University of Miami for several years.
May is a member of the Miami-Dade Trial Lawyers Association, the Miami-Dade Bar, Florida Association for Women Lawyers, Miami-Dade Chapter, and is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
She began her legal career practicing law with her father, William A. Cain, who was an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Miami School of Law. May currently practices law with her Husband and Law Partner, William J. Snihur, Jr. They have their own boutique law firm, Cain & Snihur, LLP. May obtained her Juris Doctor Degree from DePaul University School of Law in 1980, and also attended the University of Miami School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Northwestern University.
May is an AV Preeminent rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, part of an elite group of the top 10% of all attorneys. She has held this most prestigious peer review rating for many years, achieving the agency’s highest marks for both competency and ethics.
