After being commissioned as an officer in the United States Army and serving in the Transportation Corps, he went on to attend the Stetson University School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 1994. A year after he received his law degree, he became licensed to practice across all Florida state courts, as well as the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
