Attorney Profile

The founder of his own law firm located in Coral Gables, Florida, Richard A. Schurr performs a variety of legal services for his individual and business clients located throughout the greater Miami metropolitan area. A sizable portion of his practice is centered on family law matters. In that regard, Mr. Schurr assists people whose marriages are coming to an end and who need to deal with such divorce-related issues as the division of property, child custody and visitation, and alimony and child support. As Florida law requires divorcing couples to first go through mediation, he often helps his clients reach an accord through that alternative dispute resolution method, but he is a forceful courtroom advocate in the event a case proceeds to litigation.

Other family law matters that Mr. Schurr has experience in include the preparation and review of prenuptial agreements, paternity disputes, and the enforcement of and modifications to existing court orders. Mr. Schurr also provides advice and counsel to entrepreneurs who are looking to launch a new business. In this regard, he advises them as to the type of legal entity that would be most suitable and prepares and files the requisite formation documents. Mr. Schurr then drafts shareholders, partnership and operating agreements, and as the venture grows, he prepares employment agreements as well as ongoing business contracts. He also provides litigation representation in the event of contract breaches or other disputes.

Mr. Schurr served on the Whittier Law Review before being awarded his Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School in 1994. He also holds an LL.M. in taxation from the University of Miami School of Law, and he is admitted to practice in Florida, California and Colorado. He has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and a 10.0 "Superb" peer review rating through Avvo.

*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell® is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating™ fall into two categories – legal ability and general ethical standards.
