Mr. Preira attended the University of Miami as an undergraduate and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration cum laude. He then pursued his legal education at the University of Miami School of Law and was a member of the school's Trial Team before being awarded his Juris Doctor in 1981.

He has also frequently been called on to act as an expert witness at divorce and other family law trials, and he has been appointed as guardian ad litem for children who are the subject of child custody disputes. Admitted to practice in Florida, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 4th, 5th and 11th Circuits, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
