Details
After participating in Cobb Cole's summer program in 2007, Michael Sznapstajler embarked on his journey with the firm as part of the Environmental and Land Use Department. His work is centered around environmental law, governmental regulations and the intricacies of land use and zoning. In his environmental role, he navigates clients through challenges such as waste management, site cleanups, Brownfield redevelopment and issues concerning wetlands and endangered species. In 2010, he expanded his repertoire by joining Cobb Cole's Litigation Department, where he deals with a range of commercial disputes and labor-related legal matters.
Mr. Sznapstajler extends his services to redevelopers, landowners, potential buyers and local governments, guiding them through environmental due diligence, permitting processes, and the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated sites. His remarkable skill in navigating the Florida Brownfields Redevelopment Program stands out, facilitating the designation of Brownfield areas, crafting rehabilitation agreements, achieving regulatory closure and obtaining tax credits for voluntary cleanups. He consistently collaborates with local and state officials on environmental and land use matters.
With a wealth of experience, Mr. Sznapstajler adeptly represents businesses, municipalities and nonprofits in addressing contaminated site issues and spearheading the redevelopment of Brownfield sites in Florida. He plays a crucial role in designating Brownfield areas, negotiating agreements, managing cleanups and applying for tax credits. Additionally, he has contributed to legislative advancements that enhance liability protection and incentivize Brownfield redevelopment in Florida.
Before diving into his legal career, Mr. Sznapstajler was immersed in university life at the University of Miami, where he contributed to the athletic department, joined Omicron Delta Kappa and led the Jewish Student Organization. His pre-law school days saw him interning with the Miami Dolphins’ Community Relations Department. By 2008, he earned his Juris Doctor from the Stetson University College of Law, where he was active on the Moot Court Board and Phi Delta Phi, and interned with the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County.
A former president of the Florida Brownfields Association, Mr. Sznapstajler is deeply involved in community service. He sits on the board of directors of the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties, which provides support to families in need and care for the elderly. He also serves as secretary of the Daytona Beach Partnership Association and co-chairs the Florida Brownfields Association Legislative, Policy & Technical Committee. He also played a pivotal role in increasing funding for Brownfield redevelopment during the 2011 Florida legislative session.
