Serving clients across Fort Lauderdale, Brendan A. Sweeney has dedicated his practice to handling matters involving construction law, real estate law and business law. With over two decades of experience in the legal sphere, he currently serves as the founding partner of Sweeney Law, P.A., in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Frequently counseling clients in construction law issues, procurement requirements, lien negotiations, defect claims, bid disputes and payment, and performance bond claims, he provides goal-oriented representation.
Before pursuing his law degree, Mr. Sweeney completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He then proceeded to receive his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law in 2005 and, in the same year, gained licensure to practice law in Florida. He later completed his Master of Laws in 2007. Additionally, he is admitted to practice law in Maryland and appears before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. Tax Court.
Starting his legal career as a prosecutor, Mr. Sweeney managed various criminal cases, gaining valuable experience in the courtroom and legal processes. He subsequently shifted his focus to real estate and civil litigation, expanding his knowledge and services within the legal field. Establishing his firm in 2016, he has since channeled his efforts to assisting businesses in navigating complex legal challenges, including contracts, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, governance, liability, employment, and taxation, among others.
Throughout his extensive legal practice, Mr. Sweeney has resolved numerous cases for his clients. Notably, the Third District Court of Appeal in Florida overturned an incorrect foreclosure dismissal in Deutsche Bank National Trust Co. v. Estrella Perez. He successfully argued that it was incorrect to strike Deutsche Bank's unnamed corporate witness without proving prejudice, both during the trial and on appeal. His continued efforts to ensure high standards of client service earned him an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
