Mr. Kollin obtained acquittals or reversals in many of these cases, while in others he negotiated favorable plea agreements for his clients. Mr. Kollin also litigated a wide variety of police misconduct cases which include false arrests, illegal searches, excessive force, First Amendment violations, and malicious prosecutions.

As a member of The Florida Bar, Mr. Kollin is licensed to practice before all Florida state courts. He also practices before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Majoring in biology, Mr. Kollin attended Harvard University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. His legal education was at the University of Miami School of Law, and in 1979 he obtained his Juris Doctor and became a member of The Florida Bar. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Kollin was a prosecutor with the State Attorney's Office in Broward County and an attorney with the Public Defender's Office in Broward County. His professional memberships include the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

  • Obtained a judgment of $350,000 in a civil rights, false arrest, police misconduct and excessive force case against the Broward Sheriff's Office, 2016
  • Many significant monetary awards against in successful cases against the cities of Lauderhill, Davie, Sunrise, Miami Beach, and Hollywood, Miami-Dade County, the Broward Sheriff, the Brevard Sheriff and the Brevard Sheriff for false arrests, excessive force, malicious prosecutions, negligent hiring, and civil rights violations.
  • Obtained a judgment of over $1,000,000 (one million dollars in a class action suit against the local Broward Sheriff where the Sheriff kept people in jail after they were found not guilty A federal judge ordered the Sheriff to stop doing that, 1996
  • Obtained a judgment of $62,500.00 against the City of Ft. Lauderdale for  illegally holding a man in handcuffs for 20 minutes without reasonable suspicion and any legal basis. The man was awarded over $3,000 per minute, 2014
  • Reversed a state judge's denials of the sealing in FOUR consecutive appeals.  The judge had ruled four times that the files could not be sealed and I reversed that judge four (4) consecutive times. As a result all the files were sealed, 2018
  • Over $400,000 was obtained in a class action suit against the Broward Sheriff for charging fees to process servers that were not permitted by law. 
  • Jury verdict of $82,500.00 against the City of Hallandale for false arrest, malicious prosecution, and excessive force involving a person who was found not guilty and spent one night in jail and was pepper sprayed. The court ordered the police ovfficer to pay over $42,000.00 in attorney's fees. As a result the plaintiff (the person suing) did not have to pay any attorny's fees at all and receivrd the entire $82,500.00, 2013
