A partner at Jacksonville, Florida-based Coker Law, Matthew N. Posgay focuses his practice on personal injury and wrongful death litigation. In that regard, he provides representation to clients throughout the area who have suffered economic and noneconomic harm due to the negligence of others. Mr. Posgay is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by The Florida Bar and Board Certified in Civil Trial Advocacay by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. His successes both in and out of the courtroom have earned him other recognition from his colleagues as well. He has received an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and has been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100 each year since 2013.
The types of matters Mr. Posgay has been involved in on behalf of his plaintiff clients have arisen out of motor vehicle and tractor trailer crashes, premises liability, defective products, sexual assaults and pedestrian crashes. Having tried dozens of cases to verdict, he has obtained numerous high-dollar jury awards and negotiated many favorable settlements. Mr. Posgay also assists clients whose insurance claims have been disputed or denied in bad faith by their insurers. Admitted to practice before all Florida state courts, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida.
Majoring in political science at the University of Florida, Mr. Posgay received a bachelor’s degree in 1991. Remaining in Gainesville, he then attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law and was an editor on the University of Florida Journal of Law and Public Policy before being awarded his law degree in 1994. Mr. Posgay was an insurance defense attorney before joining Coker Law in 2008.
