Attorney Profile

Attorney Mitchell A. Stone is the founder of Mitchell A. Stone, P.A., one of North Florida's premiere legal practices for criminal defense with offices in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach. Holding national acclaim as one of the country's top criminal defense attorneys, Mr. Stone has achieved unprecedented success advocating on behalf of those accused of serious felony violations and federal offenses as well as those facing misdemeanor charges.

Board-certified by The Florida Bar as a criminal trial law specialist with nearly 30 years of trial experience, Mr. Stone possesses extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system. A veteran of more than 150 jury trials, he uses the invaluable insight as well as the experience he gained as a state prosecutor to devise the most effective defense strategies possible for those he serves.

Mr. Stone attended the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he served as editor for the Florida Journal of International Law. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 1988 and his license to practice from The Florida Bar the following year. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Upon receiving his license to practice, Mr. Stone served with the state attorney's office in Miami and then in Jacksonville, starting as a prosecutor before ultimately serving with the special assault unit and homicide team. In 1992, he left to pursue private practice, and since then, he has earned numerous awards and honors for his professionalism and service.

Along with holding an AV Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell, he has received recognition from Florida Trend magazine as one of the state's "Legal Elite," and U.S. News & World Report voted his law firm as one of the best in the nation in 2018.

A consummate professional, Mr. Stone is active in a number of local, state and national bar associations, and he routinely conducts lectures and continuing legal education seminars across the country on a variety of legal topics. In addition, he also provides in-depth commentary on legal issues for several televised, radio and print news outlets.
