Mr. Stein graduated cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in history, with honors, and he later received his Juris Doctor, with honors, in 1980 from the University of Miami, School of Law. He was admitted to practice law in Florida in 1980. Mr. Stein maintains membership in local and national legal organizations such as the Miami Dade County Bar and American Bar Associations, Florida Justice Association, American Association for Justice and Miami-Dade Justice Association.
Since 1997, Mr. Stein has been board certified in workers' compensation by the Florida Board of Legal Specialization and Education.
