As the founder of his own firm, J. Wiley Hicks represents individuals and businesses in cases involving eminent domain. He serves clients in the Miami, Florida, area, using his more than 30 years of experience to ensure that his clients receive the payment they deserve for their property.Â
Mr. Hicks began his education at Auburn University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in economics in 1981. He then went on to graduate from the University of Florida Levin College of Law with his Juris Doctor in 1985. He became licensed to practice law in Florida the same year.Â
Mr. Hicks started his legal career by working on cases involving complex commercial litigation. He later accepted a position as an assistant general counsel with the Florida Department of Transportation in its eminent domain department. This inside knowledge helps Mr. Hicks provide his clients with informed representation. His zealous representation assisted one client in securing an $855,000 jury verdict against the government that had initially offered the client only $1,000.
Mr. Hicks has served on the Executive Counsel of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar for the past 7 years and was Chair of the Executive Counsel for the 2020-2021 bar year.
A seasoned practitioner, Mr. Hicks has experience going up against such entities as the Florida Department of Transportation, the City of Miami Beach Redevelopment Authority, the South Florida Water Management District, the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, the Florida Gas Pipeline Co. and other county and municipal entities. He has served as secretary of the Florida Bar of Governors and as a member of the executive council of The Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section. Respected by his fellow professionals, Mr. Hicks holds an AV Preeminent* peer -review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
