Mr. Buist has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Charleston and a cum laude MBA from the University of South Carolina, Darla Moore School of Business. He then decided to pursue a career in law and enrolled at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as a research editor for the South Carolina Law Review and was elected to be a Student Bar Association representative.
During law school, Mr. Buist won the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in criminal procedure, federal income taxation, advanced legal writing, and legal research, analysis and writing. He was a dean’s list student, a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe, and a legal intern at the Conservation Voters of South Carolina. After graduation, he also earned a Master of Environmental Law and Policy (MELP) degree magna cum laude from Vermont Law School.
After law school, Mr. Buist gained courtroom experience serving as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Anderson Jr. and the Honorable David R. Duncan. He is now licensed to practice in the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina; he is also admitted before the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit.
