Lisa M. Figueroa is the founding attorney of the Florida Defense Team, based in the Orlando metropolitan area, Florida. With nearly two decades of legal experience since obtaining her J.D. from Florida State University College of Law in 2003, she has become a formidable presence in the courtrooms of not only Orange and Osceola (including Kissimmee) counties but also at the federal level. She is deeply committed to the practice areas of DUI/DWI, drug violations and broader criminal law, fervently advocating for the rights and fair treatment of her clients.
Educationally, Ms. Figueroa distinguished herself early on, earning accolades such as the Book Award for receiving the top grade in Law & Public Opinion during her law school tenure. Her academic journey began with a cum laude bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Florida, laying a solid foundation for her legal proficiency. Her legal practice is marked by a high engagement in litigation, with 80% of her work devoted to defending her clients in court, where she has led nearly 100 jury trials with a significant record of success.
Both colleagues and clients commend Ms. Figueroa for her empathetic approach to defense, often highlighting her ability to connect with and effectively represent those who are often misunderstood or overlooked by the justice system. Her philosophy extends beyond mere legal defense; she sees her role as a protector of individual rights and a challenger of overcriminalization and unjust minimum mandatory sentencing. Her personal journey as a mother of four and a woman of faith who has overcome numerous challenges enriches her practice, offering a unique perspective and relentless drive.
Professionally, Ms. Figueroa is an active member of several legal associations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Central Florida Association For Women Lawyers. Her commitment to the community and professional excellence has been recognized with multiple awards, such as the Legal Eagle Award of County Court from the Public Defender’s Office. Her roles in these organizations, coupled with her speaking engagements and publications, underscore her leadership and dedication to both her clients and the broader legal community.
