  • For most in-house intellectual property (IP) counsel, in addition to developing an intellectual property strategy, it is important to develop a deep understanding of the company’s overall strategy and goals such that the legal and business objectives can be aligned. In-house attorneys are better positioned for this role as they are embedded in the company. This paper identifies areas that in-house attorneys should consider when working to ensure their internal client’s business objectives are met while ensuring robust intellectual property protection., Providing Client Success In Today’s Business Transactions, Legal, 2017

  • This leads to a second question: is outsourcing worth it or not? In developing an intellectual property legal outsourcing program, organizations should assess the value of the outsourced legal service providers using various metrics, for example cycle time, client satisfaction, quality, and cost. The establishment of metrics to measure and track results to goals is crucial to the success of an intellectual property legal outsourcing program. Metrics provide a mechanism for the assessment of performance to goals in an objective, quantifiable manner, providing the capability for constant process improvement, real-time results tracking, and readily understood reporting to stakeholders within the company., Intellectual Property Legal Sourcing: In or Out?
