    A significant portion of Mr. Clayton’s practice involves securities law court and arbitration proceedings. His clients have included customers of brokerage firms and investment advisers in cases involving fraud, misrepresentation, and other offenses, and he has also represented former employees of securities companies who have been terminated due to whistleblowing or other protected activities. In addition, Mr. Clayton has appeared on behalf of clients before federal and state securities agencies as well as in proceedings before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc.

    As an undergraduate, Mr. Clayton studied at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, before transferring to Seton Hall University and receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1981. After graduation, he worked for several years in various capacities in the securities industry and for an oil and gas drilling company before deciding to pursue a legal education and enrolling at Seton Hall University School of Law. In 1987, Mr. Clayton was awarded his Juris Doctor, and he subsequently was a partner in Sarasota-area law firms before joining his current firm in November 2016. His honors include an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, and he is active in numerous legal and community organizations, including his service in 2019-2020 as president of the Sarasota County Bar Association.
