Details
Andrew Prince Brigham functions as the managing partner at the Brigham Property Rights Law Firm, PLLC, located in St. Augustine, Florida. With over three decades of professional legal experience, he concentrates on representing property and business owners in eminent domain proceedings. Utilizing his skills and experience, he strives to assist in protecting the civil rights of private owners and help them with matters regarding property valuation, division and use.
Establishing the firm in 2012, Mr. Brigham has experience representing his clients in hearings on orders of taking, bench trials in inverse condemnation and other appeals. Prior to starting his own firm, he worked for more than two decades at a private firm, where he was part of an ad hoc task force of lawyers to represent property owners and condemning authorities, and drafted revisions to the Florida Eminent Domain Code.
Between 2013 and 2018, Mr. Brigham served as the lead counsel and secured three of the four largest jury verdicts in Florida state court eminent domain cases against the Florida Department of Transportation, with awards of $2,800,000, $2,900,000 and $4,905,000. More recently, in 2019, he acted as co-counsel in an eminent domain case that achieved the largest pre-suit settlement with the Florida Department of Transportation over the previous five years, totaling $23,000,000.
An active member of the Florida legal community, Mr. Brigham has a membership in the Owners’ Counsel of America. Co-chairing a number of continuing legal education seminars, he also frequently conducts lectures on eminent domain, property rights and trial advocacy. He has secured an inclusion to the list of The Best Lawyers in America. Among his notable accomplishments is one with a jury verdict amounting to $67.4 million, which he was a lead counsel for.
A 1988 B.A. in English literature graduate of Wheaton College, Mr. Brigham obtained his doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1991. In addition to his admission to The Florida Bar in 1991, he has also been admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
