Hugh Higgins is board-certified as a construction law specialist by The Florida Bar and leads the St. Petersburg office of Bachara Construction Law Group. With his primary focus on construction law and litigation, he represents a diverse clientele, including general contractors, developers and design professionals throughout Florida. Known for his strategic approach, he guides clients through the intricacies of contract negotiations and the resolution of disputes that arise mid-way.
Enriched with the experiences gained over 15 years in complex commercial litigation, Mr. Higgins has a successful track record, particularly in the construction sector. Defending against claims, including a wide variety of structural and design issues for more than a decade, his notable achievements include the dismissal of all charges against a client in a prominent Miami-Dade County case after a rigorous jury trial.
Mr. Higgins’ experience extends beyond construction, encompassing business litigation, casualty and premises liability, product liability and white collar defense. He graduated with honors in art history from the University of Florida, where he was recognized as the Scholar of the Year, among other accolades. He also obtained a Juris Doctor with honors from Stetson University College of Law, followed by a clerkship with the Honorable Judge William J. Zloch at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
Peer-review rated AV-Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Higgins also has admissions to all Florida state courts, several federal courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. His commitment to the profession is evident through his active role in The Florida Bar's Construction Law Committee.
