Details
With nearly 30 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge garnered throughout his career, Weston F. Smith is one of the most recognized and sought-after personal injury attorneys in Florida. Taking cases statewide, he represents the residents of Florida through his firm, Weston Smith Law, PLLC, in St. Petersburg, and provides legal counsel and assistance to parties who have been severely injured due to others’ negligence, including nursing home abuse and medical malpractice.
Growing up near the beaches of St. Petersburg in the ’70s and ’80s, Mr. Smith attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree. He moved to Alabama to pursue his law degree at the Samford University Cumberland School of Law, where he received his doctorate in jurisprudence in 1992 and was admitted to practice law in Florida the same year.
Right after obtaining his bar license, Mr. Smith began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor working as an assistant state attorney under Bernie McCabe in the 6th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's office in Clearwater. After working there for almost half a decade, he gained immense trial experience and knowledge while prosecuting numerous felony and misdemeanor crimes. He then started focusing his legal practice on defending people who have been sued for personal injuries arising from an automobile accident, premises liability or health care-related malpractices.
After almost a decade, Mr. Smith decided to turn the tables and devote his time and practice to representing the injured and a few years later he established his law firm, Weston Smith Law, PLLC. His commitment to his clients and exceptional professionalism has been recognized by his colleagues and he has been peer-review rated as AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Smith is an active member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and currently serves as the ABOTA Tampa Bay Chapter’s secretary. He is also a member of The Florida Bar’s Trial Lawyer Section’s executive council, and he teaches the Advances Trial Advocacy Course annually at The Florida Bar Trial Lawyers Section to his fellow lawyers.
