A highly regarded trial attorney, Douglas J. Titus, Jr., is of counsel at Betras, Kopp & Markota. Working out of the firm's offices in Tampa, Florida, he represents people and businesses throughout the state. Admitted to practice in Florida since 1975, Mr. Titus is also admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 11th Circuits; and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Mr. Titus' litigation experience has encompassed both complex civil matters and criminal defense. In the former area, his caseload has included actions involving breaches of contracts and fiduciary duties, shareholder and partner disputes, intellectual property, trusts and estates, and employment law. In his criminal defense practice, Mr. Titus has represented people who have been charged by the state or federal government with having committed serious offenses. He has handled cases involving insider trading, fraud, racketeering, money laundering, and violations of environmental regulations. He has been able to obtain positive results for many of these defendants, including dismissals, acquittals, reversals of convictions at the appellate level, and the negotiation of favorable plea agreements with the prosecution. Mr. Titus’ successful track record in all these endeavors has earned him a great deal of recognition from his fellow members of the bar, including an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Titus attended Villanova University as an undergraduate and received a Bachelor of Science in 1972. He then went on to pursue his legal education at the Georgetown University Law Center and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1975. After graduation, Mr. Titus clerked for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and then served as an assistant U.S. Attorney before entering private practice.
