Details

The co-founder of Fernandez Firm Medical Malpractice Attorneys in Tampa, Florida, Jennifer Gentry Fernandez has devoted her practice to representing victims of personal injury. Handling cases involving car accidents, motorcycle accidents, slip-and-fall accidents, wrongful death and nursing home abuse, among others, she greatly focuses on medical malpractice. As a committed legal professional, she offers her knowledge and support to clients throughout Florida, with a focus on the Tampa Bay region.

Completing her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida, Ms. Fernandez proceeded to pursue her law degree at Stetson University College of Law. She received her Juris Doctor in 1993 and in the following year was admitted to The Florida Bar. She is further licensed to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Kicking her career off as an insurance and medical malpractice defense attorney, Ms. Fernandez gained deep insight into the defense strategies they utilize. After transitioning to counseling plaintiffs, she leveraged her experience in the opposition to dismantle the defense and earn suitable outcomes for her clients. Early in her career, she worked with the Florida “Dream Team,” assisting in the civil lawsuit against the American Tobacco Company, recovering more than $11.3 billion in Medicaid payments.

Over the course of her three-decade career, Ms. Fernandez has helped many clients secure their future and recover the compensation they require. Her commitment to providing her clients with quality representation earned her recognition on the National Registry’s Who’s Who Among Business and Professional Achievers in 2012. She was also awarded the Bronze EAGLE Award by the Florida Justice Association (formerly Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers).

Other Outstanding Achievements

  • Together with partner Frank Fernandez, recipient of the Florida Justice Association Krupnick Award.  Named after FJA Founder Jon E. Krupnick, this prestigious award recognizes efforts on behalf of a particular client, reflecting relentless commitment, perseverance, and fortitude in seeking justice through all obstacles and roadblocks. The award capped a 20+ year battle on behalf of a catastrophically injured victim of medical negligence and punitive conduct by an Orlando-area physician and OB/GYN clinic. The lawsuit was filed in 2003, tried to a $36 million verdict in 2011, the subject of numerous appeals (of an erroneous dismissal, of the verdict, and on subsequent issues in the execution/collection phase), and finally settled and dismissed in 2022. At the final hearing approving the settlement, Middle District of Florida Bankruptcy Judge Karen Jennemann commented, "The only part of the legal system that did not fail the plaintiff was her attorneys, Frank and Jennifer Fernandez.", 2022
