Joseph D. Hunt

For more than 25 years, Joseph Hunt has practiced in the area of marital and family law. As an experienced trial lawyer, he is as comfortable in the courtroom as in the conference room, but recognizes the benefits of settlement over trial. Mr. Hunt is one of a select few Florida attorneys who have earned the designation of being Board Certified in Marital and Family Law. Board Certification is the highest level of recognition by The Florida Bar, displaying an attorney’s competency and experience in their specific area of law. Mr. Hunt is one of only sixty-four attorneys who have earned the recognition of being a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, which recognizes the leading practitioner in the field of family law. Mr. Hunt utilizes his experience to focus on complex domestic relations matters, either with a traditional litigation-based approach or a collaborative approach.

Mr. Hunt has litigated numerous cases in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, Hernando and Sarasota Counties.  With extensive trial experience, he is a zealous advocate who simultaneously promotes the amicable resolution of disputes. Additionally, Mr. Hunt has handled numerous collaborative cases in multiple counties.

Mr. Hunt has been a member of The Florida Bar since 1993 and is an active member of The Florida Bar Family Law Section, where he is currently a member of the Executive Council and a Co-Chair of the Equitable Distribution Committee. He previously served as Co-Chair of The Florida Bar Family Law Section’s Legislative Committee and as a member of the Trial Advocacy Committee. He also previously served on The Florida Bar Marital and Family Law Certification Committee, as well as on a Florida Bar Grievance Committee. Mr. Hunt is a member of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and formerly served as Chair of their Marital and Family Law Section. He is a member of the Tampa Bay Academy of Collaborative Professionals and previously served on the Executive and Membership Committee. Mr. Hunt is a member of the St. Petersburg Bar Association, is a master member of the Stann W. Givens Family Law Inn of Court, and serves on the Board of Managers and Institute and Webinar Committees for the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Mr. Hunt received his B.A. degree from Michigan State University and his J.D. degree from Stetson University College of Law.  Mr. Hunt has been recognized in Florida Super Lawyers®, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite. Mr. Hunt was awarded as one of Best Lawyers in America© 2020 Family Law “Lawyer of the Year,” after being recognized by his peers. Mr. Hunt completed Family Mediation Certification training, has served as a family law mediator, is a frequent speaker on Family Law issues, speaking at Florida’s Marital and Family Law Review Course, and serving as a workshop leader at the last three cycles of the Florida Bar Family Law Section Trial Advocacy Seminar. He was awarded the 2012 Ted Millison Professionalism Award by the Family Law Inn of Tampa having exemplified the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in the practice of family law.

Mr. Hunt is active in charitable causes and civic organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, Lawyers for Literacy and serves on the Board of Directors and is the current President-Elect for The Rotary Club of Tampa.
