TERRY M. SANKS, a registered patent attorney, is a founding member of Beusse Sanks, PLLC.  Terry provides representation in all areas of intellectual property (“IP”) law, including patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, trade secrets, IP litigation, licensing, and IP-related transactions.  Terry’s practice also includes managing patent and trademark portfolios for Fortune 500 companies, regional companies, and universities.  He also is counsel to a major company where he is responsible for enforcing their trademark rights nationally. 

Terry’s noteworthy legal abilities have resulted in him being recognized and honored at the state level and nationally by his peers including Best Lawyers (including Lawyer of the Year for Trademark Law in 2023, Patent Law in 2022, and Copyright Law in 2019), Super Lawyers, World Trademark Review 1000, IP Stars, Florida Legal Elite, Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell and 10.0 Superb by Avvo. Terry’s practice can truly be identified by the slogan, “from beneath the seas to outer space—providing IP solutions” as Terry has directly been involved with acquiring patents and trademarks that can be found across this broad spectrum.  

Terry has been an adjunct professor of law at the Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University College of Law and at the Barry University School of Law. He has also volunteered his time, primarily to civic and church-based organizations, lecturing on various areas of intellectual property law. He also mentors law students and attorneys starting their legal careers.

In addition to his involvement in national-level bar associations, Terry is also active in the Florida Bar and the Orange County Bar Association.  He is a past chair of the IP Committee of the Florida Bar and is a past member of the Federal Bar Committee of the Florida Bar.   

Terry is a decorated former United States Air Force officer whose service includes being a program manager of a one-of-its-kind electric propulsion space experiment, authoring several articles about electric propulsion which included presenting the papers at national and international conferences, and serving as an electronic combat systems engineer where he directly supported the war-fighting mission of pilots in both the Air Force and Navy.
