Details
Scott Slappey is one of the principal attorneys at Atlanta-based Slappey & Sadd LLC, where he focuses his practice primarily on workers' compensation matters. Admitted to practice before all Georgia state courts, his background also includes personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Highly regarded by his fellow professionals for the excellent quality of his work and successful track record, Mr. Slappey has received both an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and a "Superb" peer review rating through Avvo.
In his workers' compensation practice, Mr. Slappey provides representation to people throughout the state who have been injured on the job or who have contracted an occupational disease and who are seeking their rightful benefits under their employer's insurance coverage. His work in this regard has encompassed assisting with the preparation of the initial claim, helping to ensure that it contains all necessary documentation and that it is filed on a timely basis. Mr. Slappey also has advocated for clients at hearings when their claims have been disputed or denied. While these benefits are usually the only recourse, there are situations where a personal injury lawsuit can also be filed, such as when the incident was caused by the negligence of a nonemployer third party, and Mr. Slappey's experience often allows him to provide assistance in that regard as well.
Mr. Slappey attended what was then known as Georgia Southwestern College, where he majored in political science and obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1983. His legal education came at the Walter F. George School of Law, part of Mercer University, and he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1986. Mr. Slappey was with a law firm that represented employers and insurers in workers' compensation cases before he became a claimant's attorney.
