J. Kyle Brooks

A partner at Buckley Bala Wilson Mew LLP in Atlanta, Georgia, J. Kyle Brooks dedicates his practice to employment, civil rights and business law. With a wealth of experience, he navigates a diverse landscape of disputes, including those centered around employment discrimination and retaliation based on race, gender, age, national origin, religion and disability. 

In his role, Mr. Brooks offers guidance on employment contracts, releases and issues surrounding restrictive covenants, along with commercial business conflicts. His prowess extends beyond business and employment, as he has successfully litigated numerous cases involving police and corrections misconduct and alleged First Amendment breaches by government officials. Many of these cases have attracted media attention and achieved high-profile status.

Hailing from Macon, Georgia, Mr. Brooks is an alumnus of Mercer University, where he earned a degree in business administration. He furthered his education at Georgia State University College of Law, obtaining his law degree in 2013. That same year, he was licensed in Georgia.

Upon completing his legal studies, Mr. Brooks embarked on a career in private practice, concentrating on business litigation, catastrophic personal injury cases and civil rights issues related to police misconduct in the metro Atlanta area. Notably, he played a pivotal role in litigating cases against the city of Atlanta and officers from its infamous REDDOG unit, both during and after his time in law school. His business litigation work spanned claims under the Fair Business Practices Act, the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, ERISA, breach of contract and fraud.

Before joining Buckley Bala Wilson Mew LLP, Mr. Brooks was with the Georgia Department of Law, where he spent several years addressing civil rights and constitutional law. His caseload involved issues related to the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments, as well as sovereign and qualified immunity. He also tackled complex cases like wrongful death litigation and those with agency-wide policy implications, alongside matters involving the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, Title IX and the Georgia Tort Claims Act.
