While she was in law school, Ms. Novay participated in several competitions, and she was a national semifinalist in the Student Trial Advocacy Competition held each year by the American Association for Justice. She also gained criminal law experience through various internships, including one with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, and another with the Metropolitan Nashville's Public Defender’s Office. Ms. Novay was awarded her Juris Doctor cum laude in 2009, and upon her graduation she was inducted into the Order of The Barristers. She was an associate with an Richmond criminal defense firm before leaving in 2010 to join Garland, Samuel & Loeb, P.C.
Ms. Novay is admitted to practice in Georgia, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
