She also gained criminal law experience through various internships, including one with the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, and another with the Metropolitan Nashville's Public Defender’s Office. Ms. Novay was awarded her Juris Doctor cum laude in 2009, and upon her graduation she was inducted into the Order of The Barristers. She was an associate with an Richmond criminal defense firm before leaving in 2010 to join Garland, Samuel & Loeb, P.C.
