Details

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Robert G. Wellon zealously advocates for his family law clients from all over the state through his eponymous law firm, Robert G. Wellon Attorney & Counselor at Law. He handles all aspects of divorce and all associated complex issues, such as child custody and visitation, child support, equitable distribution of marital assets and debts, and alimony through settlement negotiation, mediation or trial.

Practicing family law for about five decades, Mr. Wellon has built a firm reputation for tenaciously defending his clients in court when situations demand. However, his previous experience allows him to help his clients resolve some or all of these issues through alternative dispute resolution methods. Also, he has assisted several clients in establishing paternity, preparing pre- and postnuptial agreements, and enforcing and amending existing court orders.

Following his undergraduate degree in political science and government in 1970 from Emory University, Mr. Wellon earned his Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law in 1974. Authorized to practice before all Georgia and Florida state courts, he has functioned as the president, the chairperson and a member of the board of directors of the Atlanta Bar Association.

As the founder and initial director of the Atlanta College of Trial Advocacy, Mr. Wellon has profoundly impacted legal education and practice in the region. He also served as the chairman of the Atlanta Bar Litigation Section and was the inaugural president of the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law American Inn of Court. His exemplary service and commitment to legal professionalism were recognized when he was awarded the Chief Justice Thomas O. Marshall Professionalism Award by the State Bar.

Mr. Wellon has been an active participant on the State Bar Committee on Professionalism. Additionally, he represented the American Bar Association as a delegate to the House of Delegates from 1999 to 2005, earning the Charles Watkins Leadership Award for his sustained service. With a “Superb” rating on Avvo, he has also been peer-review rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell, and featured in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law for more than 35 years.

*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell® is the facilitator of a peer-review rating process. Ratings reflect the anonymous opinions of members of the bar and the judiciary. Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ fall into two categories – legal ability and general ethical standards.
