Details
Xavier Carter is an accomplished attorney who has dedicated his career to advocating on behalf of plaintiffs facing some of life's most challenging circumstances. Serving at the Atlanta office of Chance, Forlines, Carter & King, PC, in Georgia, his journey in the legal field began in 2009 with a previous law firm, where he focused on professional liability defense and commercial litigation. His practice primarily focuses on medical negligence, nursing home abuse, and neglect of the elderly and disabled, as well as trucking and commercial vehicle collisions, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death and whistleblower or qui tam actions.
In 2014, Mr. Carter transitioned to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama as a federal prosecutor. There, he honed his trial skills by prosecuting white collar crime, civil rights abuses and violent crime. He led complex investigations involving fraud, theft and embezzlement, as well as cases of law enforcement misconduct and civil rights violations. His roles as both the civil rights coordinator and the human trafficking coordinator allowed him to deepen his commitment to advocating for victims.
In 2018, Mr. Carter joined the law firm then known as Watkins, Lourie, Roll & Chance, P.C., and in 2023, he became a partner in the newly formed Chance, Forlines, Carter & King, PC.
Throughout his career, Mr. Carter has fought tirelessly for individuals who have been seriously injured and for families who have lost loved ones due to negligence. In 2022, he co-led trial teams that secured record-setting verdicts, including a $15.3 million verdict in McKinney vs. Life Care Centers of America and a $2.8 million verdict in Perloe vs. Somerby Senior Living, LLC. Most recently, in June 2023, he was co-lead counsel on a trial team that obtained a $40 million verdict in a complex medical malpractice case in Bibb County, Georgia.
Mr. Carter is a magna cum laude graduate of Howard University and earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is actively involved in the Gate City Bar Association and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, where he serves on the Executive Committee as co-chair of the Minority Caucus and on the PAC Board. Additionally, he is a board member of The Atlanta Thrive, advocating for the best interests of Atlanta public school children.
