As partner at Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor, Melanie A. Prehodka represents clients throughout the state of Georgia in family law matters. With over two decades of experience, her experience extends to all matters of divorce, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, paternity and father’s rights, grandparent rights, domestic violence, domestic partnerships, criminal proceedings, common law marriage, child support, child custody, appeals, alimony and spousal support and adoption.
Admitted to practice in the state of Georgia, Ms. Prehodka is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. In 2019, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals certified her in collaborative law, and she is trained to their standards and ethics in collaborative practice.
Ms. Prehodka attended Louisiana State University and earned an undergraduate degree in 1993 before moving on to law school. At Emory University School of Law, she was ranked in the top 20% of her class, was the Emory International Law Review’s managing editor and was given the American Jurisprudence Award in Civil Procedure while earning her Juris Doctor.
She takes pride in her ability to help clients map out a stable future during uncertain times, and when she is not representing her clients, she is volunteering with underprivileged teens. Known as a great listener, a well-organized attorney and extremely detail-oriented professional, Ms. Prehodka has represented thousands of women and men over the years.
