    In a career that spans more than 40 years, attorney Joel O. Wooten has had a significant impact both for the clients he has represented in cases and in the Georgia legal community. He has served as a member and Chair of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents that oversees and governs all of the public colleges and universities in Georgia.  He currently is Chair of the State Bar Business Court Committee, a member and Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of the Georgia Ports Authority, a member and former Chair of the Board of the Jasper Ocean Terminal Joint Venture, a member of the University of Georgia Athletic Board, and a member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Georgia Law School.

    Since graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1975, Mr. Wooten has served as lead counsel in numerous cases involving tractor trailer trucks, product liability, dangerous products, defective pharmaceuticals, toxic torts, and motor vehicle accidents. He has handled class action lawsuits, commercial litigation, medical malpractice and environmental law cases.

    Mr. Wooten is admitted to practice in all Georgia state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court.

    He has been listed as a Georgia Super Lawyer every year since 2007 and has been chosen as one of Georgia Trend's 100 Most Influrential Georgians. He holds an AV Preeminent rating in the Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating system. He was the 2007 recipient of GreenLaw's Doremus Award for Excellence in Environmental Law and was the 2000 recipient of the State Bar of Georgia Tradition of Excellence Award. He received the University of Georgia Law School Distinguished Service Scroll in 2012, and the Amicus Curiae Award from the Supreme Court of Georgia in 2018.  Mr. Wooten is a Fellow of the Lawyers Foundation of Georgia, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and is listed in "Who's Who in American Law."
