David R. Hughes

A partner at the Decatur, Georgia, law firm of Hall Hirsh Hughes, LLC, David R. Hughes handles complex civil litigation for clients across Georgia. Focusing his practice on business and real estate litigation, as well as on medical negligence and catastrophic personal injury claims, Mr. Hughes has also handled cases on behalf of clients throughout the Eastern United States. 

Mr. Hughes received his undergraduate degree (B.A.) and law degree (J.D.) from Emory University, and a master’s degree (M.Div.) from Harvard University.  In law school, he was a National Champion and Regional Champion for the National Moot Court Competition.  Mr. Hughes also was named to the Order of the Barristers, a national honorary society for trial advocacy.

Having more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Hughes has assisted clients with a range of complex matters, including those involving the following: railroad injuries, wrongful death, medical malpractice, securities fraud claims, violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, business and commercial litigation, and catastrophic personal injury claims. He has received the highest possible rating of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Hughes has previously served as aide for a chief deputy majority whip in the U.S. House of Representatives and as legal aide for the Georgia State Senate’s Committee on Special Judiciary.  He is a recipient of the American College of Lawyers' Medal for Excellence in Advocacy.  

Staying active in the community is a priority for Mr. Hughes. He has served in varying capacities for numerous professional and civic organizations, including the DeKalb Bar Association, the DeKalb Volunteer Lawyers Foundation, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, Columbia Theological Seminary, the Young Singers of Callanwolde, International Rescue Committee (Atlanta), the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Decatur Rotary Club.
