Before transitioning into DUI defense, Mr. Hawkins served as a prosecutor for nearly five years in the Atlanta metropolitan area, giving him ample experience and insight into the prosecutor’s perspective. Since moving to defense, he has served as lead counsel on more than 200 cases and has also helped clients avoid convictions prior to trial. He understands each case and tailors his strategy to overcome the prosecution's offense, approaching each one with a client-first mentality.
Upon graduating from The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Mr. Hawkins pursued his legal career. He gained his Juris Doctor at Emory University School of Law in 1992 and, in the same year, earned his license to practice law in Georgia. In 2001, he was board-certified by the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) for demonstrating substantial experience in trying DUI cases, managing pretrial issues and understanding the science of intoxication testing.
Mr. Hawkins’ commitment to his profession gained him several recognitions, including being listed in The Best Lawyers in America and in the Best Lawyers in Georgia as featured by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was also named Lawyer of the Year in DUI defense by The Best Lawyers in America. He was elected to be on the NCDD Board of Regents and is the chairperson of the NCDD Board Certification Committee.
