Robby Hughes is the founder of Hughes and Associates in Lawrenceville, Georgia. A top-rated, award-winning lawyer with over 28 years of legal experience, Robby represents a diverse range of clients throughout the greater Atlanta metro region and surrounding areas with legal needs involving probate and trust litigation, estate administration, estate planning, and wrongful death.

A practical and sensible attorney, Robby has earned a reputation for identifying potential problems his clients may face and offering the solid, straightforward advice clients need to make the best-informed decisions on the matters that affect their cases. A former business owner himself, he understands the unique struggles and concerns small-business owners can experience, and he strives to be the attorney his clients can rely on to help identify risks and ways to avoid costly mistakes when running their companies.

A pragmatic problem-solver, Robby prides himself on devising customized strategies and solutions that will help his clients protect themselves, their assets and their businesses with an eye on success. Along with his litigation practice, he has successfully handled over 20 appellate cases before the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. Many of his cases have set new legal precedents and helped establish new laws in the areas of probate, wills and business torts.

Robby graduated from Florida State University in 1977 with a degree in hotel and restaurant management. He then helped establish his family's printing company while assisting with its day-to-day operations. Learning firsthand the needs many small-business owners have finding a quality, trustworthy attorney, Robby attended Georgia State University College of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1992.

Along with practicing before all of Georgia's state courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court, Robby is also admitted to practice before all U.S. District Courts in Georgia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1993, he received the Gwinnett County Bar Association Pro Bono Project Award, and in 2001, he received the 10 Year Award from the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Saturday Lawyer Program.

  • In Re: Estate of Jon Edward Mendres, Sr. A19A1475 In this matter, the personal representative of the estate failed to object to the Petition for Year's Support filed by the widow of Mr. Mendres. In failing to object to the petition, the personal representative agreed to the petition.  When the trial court ordered all property requested in the petition be given to the widow, the personal representative appealed the decision. The personal representative argued the order should be set aside as being inherently unfair.  the Court of Appeals agreed with trial court and the year' support order was upheld.    Our client, the widow, received the marital home along with several bank accounts. , 2020
  • Steen-Jorgensen v. Huff, 352 Ga. App. 727, 835 S.E.2d 707 (2019). We were able to properly secure a reversal of a judgment against our client by having the Court of Appeals direct the trial court to make specific findings of fact regarding whether the trial court should hear a case about appointing a guardian in the county where the proposed ward previously resided. The trial court made a brief unsupported decision about who a guardian should be.  The Court of Appeals told the trial court that it needs to set out very specific findings in its opinion., 2019
  • Regal Nissan, Inc. v. Scott, 348 Ga. App. 91, 821 S.E.2d 561 (2018)  In this case, the Court of Appeals upheld the trial court which had found that the personal representative of an estate had the authority to enforce all rights that come with the ownership of shares of stock in a company.  The issues were related to the wife of her deceased husband seeking to secure financial information from a company in which her husband owned shares of stock. The ultimate answer is that the executor or administrator can have access to all information a deceased shareholder could have had., 2018
