Michael H. Smith

A practicing attorney since 1996, Michael H. Smith focuses his practice in the areas of estate planinng, elder law and special needs planning. He also handles the related probate and business planning work. Michael is one of the founders of Smith Barid, LLC a boutique firm founded in 2006 with his partner Richard Barid to bring superior estate planning and long term care solutions to the south Georgia area.

Michael serves as past-president of the Greater Savannah Coalition on Aging, past-president of the Georgia Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, member of the Leadership Council of the Alzheimer's Association of Coastal Georgia and member of the Savannah Sports Council. He is also a professional soccer coach and currently coaches with local club Savannah United.

Michael has been selected for various awards and honors including Super Lawyers' Rising Stars, Savannah 40 Under 40, ABA's Techiest Lawyers and is AV rated in Martindale Hubbell.

Michael is a frequent lecturer on estate planning and elder law topics, both to the public in his community and at CLE presentations around the country where he teaches other attorneys about VA Aid and Attendance benefits, long term care planning and office technology. Michael is particularly focused on the topic of long term care and co-authored a book with his partner Richard Barid and Don Quante, a financial advisor, titled Tax Free Money for Long Term Care in 2017.
