Bert S. Sakuda has been a formidable presence in the legal community since he joined Cronin, Fried, Sekiya, Kekina & Fairbanks in 1979. With a deep-seated interest in insurance law, motor vehicle accidents and appellate advocacy, he has carved out a prominent role for himself as one of Hawaii’s leading litigators. He’s based in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his practice areas include automobile, aviation, insurance, personal injury and product liability.
At the University of Hawaii, Mr. Sakuda earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976, followed by a Juris Doctor degree from the same university’s William S. Richardson School of Law in 1979. He was admitted to the Hawaii State Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii in the same year, further extending his accreditation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in 1981 and the Supreme Court of the United States in 1987.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sakuda has been actively involved in several legislative committees for the Hawaii State Bar Association, the Consumer Lawyers of Hawaii and the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section. His contributions have been recognized and valued, leading to his appointment by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Hawaii to several of the Supreme Court’s Standing Committees and to the State of Hawaii Judicial Conference.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Sakuda has held leadership positions within the Hawaii State Bar Association, serving as chair for two terms. He also served on the board of directors for the Consumer Lawyers of Hawaii from 1996 to 1999.
