Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, he earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, in 1990, followed by a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law in 1995. He was licensed in Hawaii in the same year.
An active member of the Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA), its Family Law Section and the American Bar Association, Mr. Doi has been recognized for his dedication to justice and community service. In 2002, the HSBA honored him with the Justice Award, an annual award recognizing an attorney's outstanding contributions to the ideals of justice. Additionally, in 2012, the Hawaii Access to Justice Commission acknowledged his commitment to pro bono work.
