During his academic journey, he served as an associate editor for the Oregon Law Review. His undergraduate studies took place at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, Hawai'i, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism in 1984.
Mr. Tani's legal journey began with a clerkship for the Honorable Robert G. Klein, following which, he served as a deputy public defender for the State of Hawaii for four years. He is admitted to practice law in Hawaii, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and Minnesota. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii.
In terms of professional associations, Mr. Tani is affiliated with the Elks Club and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. He holds honors such as the Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished* peer-review rating and an "Excellent" Avvo rating.
