Attorney Profile

Solely devoted to handling family law cases, Mei Nakamoto is a partner at Nakamoto & Ferrer, Attorneys at Law. She represents people throughout Hawai'i in matters that include divorce, child custody, child support, property division, alimony, domestic abuse restraining orders, and more.

Licensed to practice for more than 30 years, Ms. Nakamoto began her career in business litigation. In 1998 she shifted her focus from corporations to families. Bringing substantial mediation and courtroom experience to her practice, she can navigate any situation on behalf of clients. Ms. Nakamoto strategically approaches her cases to develop a comprehensive plan for her clients. Though she is methodical when it comes to her work, she is compassionate when it comes to the people for whom she is an advocate.

In 1980, Ms. Nakamoto received a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Hawai’i. She then earned a Juris Doctor in 1984 from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where she participated in national moot court competitions.

Ms. Nakamoto’s experience includes working for the Domestic Violence Action Center. She has guided some of the most vulnerable people through difficult decisions. She continues to do just that today as she provides practical advice to clients. In addition, she commits many hours to pro bono work through several local programs.

When she is not advocating for clients, Ms. Nakamoto is involved with several legal organizations, including Hawai'i Women Lawyers and the Hawai'i State Bar Association’s Family Law Section. She may also be found volunteering for Special Olympics Hawai’i.
