R. Patrick McPherson

R. Patrick McPherson is a Honolulu, Hawaii, attorney who focuses his practice on criminal defense, particularly traffic and DUI defense. With his firm, the Law Office of R. Patrick McPherson, he represents clients throughout the Hawaiian Islands who have been accused of drunk driving, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, hit and run and other offenses.

After graduating from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Mr. McPherson earned his law degree from Widener University School of Law. He also attended the University of Geneva in Switzerland and the Graduate Institute for Economics and International Relations, also in Geneva.

Licensed to practice in Hawaii for 20 years, Mr. McPherson has earned recognition as an authority on DUI law and DUI defense. Since 2008, he has helped the Hawaii State Legislature with its drafting of multiple statues involving DUI. He was also appointed by the Hawaii governor to a task force that helped draft the state's ignition interlock law, which allows those who have been convicted of drunk driving offenses to avoid losing their driving privileges.

The vice president of the Hawaii chapter of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Mr. McPherson hosts an annual conference in Las Vegas for the organization. He also serves as a Hawaii state delegate for the National College for DUI Defense.

Mr. McPherson serves as an adjunct professor at the John A. Burns School of Medicine and frequently lectures for professional groups, military organizations and others on topics including traffic safety and DUI law. He is frequently quoted in news media, including the Honolulu Advertiser.
