    As a trial attorney with over four decades of experience, Gary L. Cooper is one of the founding lawyers of the Cooper & Larsen Idaho Law Firm. Representing clients in the states of Idaho, Utah and Wyoming, he manages appeals, employment litigation, wrongful death litigation, catastrophic injury litigation, auto accident litigation, product liability litigation, bad faith insurance litigation, professional liability litigation and complex commercial litigation. A member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the American College of Trial Lawyers, he has helped recover millions of dollars for his clients over the years.   

    In 1975, Mr. Cooper graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law and is currently admitted to practice in the states of Idaho, Utah, Wyoming; the United States Supreme Court; and the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Court. He received the Idaho State Bar Professionalism Award in 1996; Idaho State Bar Service award in 2011; and the Idaho State Bar Distinguished Lawyer award in 2020.  Mr. Cooper is a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Idaho Association of Defense Counsel and DRI.  He serves on the Idaho State Bar Idaho Professional Conduct Board and the Idaho Federal Local Rules Committee and has served on the Idaho Civil Justice Reform Task Force, the Idaho Appellate Rules Committee, the Sixth Judicial District Magistrate's Commission and the Portneuf Inns of Court.  He is also a tribal judge for the Shoshone Bannock Tribal Court.  

    Throughout his career, Mr. Cooper has represented a long list of clients, including insurance companies, businesses, a hospital, a municipal corporation, a church, a school and the entity that operates the local events center.  He regularly consults and occasionally testifies as a defense expert witness in insurance bad faith cases and legal malpractice cases.

    • Day v. Wal Mart was tried to a 12 person state court jury in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho.  Gary L. Cooper represented Mr. Day who slipped and fell in the local Wal Mart store and suffered a cervical spinal cord injury.  He was unable to return to work as a paving foreman.  The jury returned a verdict finding Wal Mart 100% liable and awarded Mr. Day $1.6 Million in damages.  The trial judge reduced the verdict by $300,000 under the Idaho collateral source statute.  The verdict is presently on appeal. , 2011
