After graduating from Illinois State University, where she majored in political science, Ms. Duignan received her Juris Doctor from the John Marshall Law School. Admitted since 2004 to practice law in Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, she gained experience serving as assistant counsel to the speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and as the parliamentarian to the state government and insurance committees. Her experience as a defense attorney in workers' compensation and employment law gave her valuable insight into how to best represent individuals against big companies.
Ms. Duignan has lectured in trial techniques, evidence, technology, construction negligence and medical records law for the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association and Lorman Education Services. She authored a monthly column, 'Women Law & Politics' for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. She is an active member of several bar associations, including the Women's Bar Association of Illinois, where she co-chairs the Legislative Committee. She is a member of the American Association for Justice. She was elected to the Board of Managers of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and is currently serving, and also co-chairs the Legislative Committee. She has served as Treasurer and Secretary during her tenure on the Board of Governors of the Illinois State Bar Association. She currently serves as Secretary of the Fellows on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Bar Foundation and she also serves as co-chair for the Lawyer's Care Committee and the annual Lawyers Rock charitable event which helps to ensure access to justice and supports juvenile justice causes.
