Attorney Profile

James L. Farina is an attorney at Hoey & Farina, P.C., and is based in the firm's Chicago office. Focusing his practice exclusively on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, he provides representation to clients throughout the greater metropolitan area and across the state. Admitted to practice before all Illinois and Missouri state courts, Mr. Farina is also admitted to practice before several federal trial and appellate courts, including the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 6th and 7th Circuits.

A significant portion of Mr. Farina's practice involves assisting railroad workers, passengers, and their family members who have suffered catastrophic or fatal injuries in railroad accidents. As such, he has significant experience in handling cases governed by the Federal Employers Liability Act and the Federal Railroad Safety Act. In 2010, Mr. Farina was able to obtain a $33 million jury award for a train conductor who had been severely injured on the job, and at the time, this represented the second-highest jury verdict ever reached in FELA history. In addition to his railroad work, he has represented clients who have been harmed by the negligence or recklessness of other persons or entities in cases arising out of medical malpractice, defective products, and construction site accidents, and his successful track record has earned him a great deal of recognition from his fellow attorneys, including an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Farina's clients have included the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and the Transportation Communications International Union, and his professional memberships include the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He received his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1979.
