John R. Gorey

A senior partner at Curcio & Casciato in Chicago, Illinois, John R. Gorey focuses on personal injury law. His proficiency spans automobile accidents, slip-and-fall incidents, and premises and products liability. With 28 years in the profession, he is dedicated to advocating for those harmed by negligence. 

Mr. Gorey has a robust track record, having tried over 60 jury cases and settled numerous others, securing over $100 million for his clients and their families. These include a $30 million settlement for a mother and child struck by a truck, a $5 million settlement for a teenager’s drowning at school, a $2 million verdict for an injured railroad worker, a $2.6 million settlement for a fatal car crash victim’s family and over $1 million each for an older man with a hip fracture, another with a knee injury from a bus collision and a family of a child who drowned due to a day camp’s negligence, among many others. 

Mr. Gorey obtained his undergraduate degree from The University of Arizona in 1993 and his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in 1996. That same year, he was licensed to practice law in Illinois. His interest in litigation was sparked in law school, where he was a member of DePaul National Trial Team, competing in mock trials nationwide. His exceptional performance earned him the John Powers Crowley Award for distinguished trial advocacy. 

Starting his career at a firm known for defending insurance companies, Mr. Gorey gained valuable insights into insurance litigation. This wisdom sharpened his trial abilities and provided insight into insurance companies’ methods of handling injury claims. Subsequently, he transitioned to a renowned plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Chicago. Mentored by the firm’s founder, he quickly started to successfully try and resolve significant personal injury cases for the plaintiffs.

In addition to his legal acumen, Mr. Gorey is an active associate of the American Association for Justice, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and The Chicago Bar Association. He was on the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’s board of managers from 2007 to 2016 and contributed for three terms. The Illinois Supreme Court also appointed him to the Committee on Character and Fitness, where he assessed bar admission candidates for three terms until 2016.
