John W. Powers

A veteran attorney of over 20 years, John W. Powers has been a beacon of leadership and ethics within his legal community through his efficacious workers’ compensation practice, helping injured workers get the benefits and compensation they deserve to protect their futures. At Ankin Law in Chicago, Illinois, he serves residents across the surrounding suburbs, as well as throughout the state. 

Mr. Powers completed his undergraduate studies in 1996, graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree from Eastern Illinois University. He went on to attend the John Marshall Law School, where he honed his sharp legal talents and foundation that serves as the bedrock of his practice today. He received his Juris Doctor in 2000, and in the same year, he obtained his license to practice law in Illinois. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Powers always emphasized meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of his clients’ cases and compassionate care and support, as well as the confidence that their legal matters would be handled professionally and with grace and poise. A few of his notable verdicts and settlements include $745,000 for an actress who sustained traumatic head injuries while on set filming for a movie, as well as $1.1 million in Vanderburg vs. Amb Tran Group. 

For his many contributions, Mr. Powers has gained the adulation of his peers and the accolades of many prestigious legal organizations, including being rated “Excellent” on Avvo and recognized as a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network. He has also received the William J. Harte Amicus Volunteer Award from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, two years in a row. 

Within his legal community, Mr. Powers has held close affiliations with many prominent legal organizations, including the Illinois State Bar Association, the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association, the Workers’ Injury Law & Advocacy Group and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Within the latter organization, he has authored the first chapter of the Workers’ Compensation Notebook since 2002.
