Dr. John Z. Huang studied at Yale University in the United States where he earned an LLM degree in 1986 and a Jurisprudence Science Doctor (J.S.D) degree in 1989. He also received a Master's degree in law from Wuhan University, one of the top universities in China in 1985, and a J.D. degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1991.

Dr. Huang is a licensed attorney in the states of New York and Illinois. Dr. Huang has 30 years extensive experience in the areas of corporate, commercial, and immigration laws. From 1989 to 1994 he practiced law consecutively at Keck, Mahin & Cate, and at Rudnick & Wolfe, two major law firms in the United States. Dr. Huang established a private practice in Chicago in 1994. Dr. Huang’s law practice includes corporate, international business transactions, merger & acquisition, dispute resolutions, real estate, and immigrant/nonimmigrant matters. In his immigration law practice, Mr. Huang assists clients who are seeking employment-based visas such as EB-1, EB-2, and EB-3. He also has experience in securing work permits and EB-5 investor visas, and his background includes helping foreign nurses come to the United States. Mr. Huang's family-based immigration experience has covered adoptions, fiancé and spouse visas, and adjustment of status.

Dr. Huang has published many articles on legal issues in Chinese and English.  He is the Editor-In-Chief of three books titled “Cross Border Merger and Acquisition” (2015) and “Overseas Investment” (2013), published by the Wuhan University Press, and “Overseas Investment Immigration” (2019), published by the China Law Press. 

In 1991 Dr. Huang was invited to be an adjunct professor at DePaul University School of Law in Chicago, lecturing on modern Chinese laws. From 1997 to 2001, he served as an External Examiner at Hong Kong University School of Law, reviewing and grading post-graduate students' examination papers covering the Chinese commercial and civil laws. He is also a guest professor of law at Shanghai Tongji University, Wuhan University, Huazhong Normal University, Guangxi University, Hubei University, and South-Central University For Nationalities. Dr. Huang lectures occasionally on topics covering the U.S. and Chinese commercial and business law.

Because of his outstanding professional performance, Dr. Huang was awarded the title “Illinois Super Lawyer” in 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2021.  In January 2019, John Z. Huang became a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society, whose membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
