Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)
- Appellate Court decision: The claimant, Julie Bulow, filed an application for adjustment of claim under the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act seeking benefits for injuries to her left foot, left ankle and left shin that she sustained on August 13, 2019, while she was employed by respondent, AIM National Lease (employer). Held: (1) The Commission’s finding that the conditions of ill-being in the claimant’s left foot, left ankle and left leg were causally connected to the claimant’s employment and that that the claimant’s participation in a charity walk shortly after her work accident was not an independent, intervening cause of those conditions was not against the manifest weight of the evidence; (2) the Commission did not err by finding that the arbitrator did not violate the employer’s right under section 12 of the Act to conduct a fourth independent medical examination at a time scheduled by the employer; (3) the Commission did not err by awarding medical expenses paid by the claimant’s private insurance carrier even though the healthcare providers’ bills for some of the medical services at issue were not in evidence; (4) the Commission erred by awarding medical expenses for treatments to the claimant’s left shoulder because the claimant did not file a claim for injuries to her shoulder and there was no evidence that her shoulder condition was causally connected to her work accident; and (5) the amount that the claimant’s insurer paid for the claimant’s medical treatments is unclear due to discrepancies in the insurer’s payment records., 2026
