Verdicts / Settlements (Case Results)

  • 2021/2022 – As mentioned under my outstanding achievements, I have led the development of an innovative, efficient client intake and client management system, building this infrastructure from the ground up. This has allowed Keller Postman to accelerate our firm’s capacity to represent clients in mass practice, including in mass tort litigation, mass arbitrations, and class action. To date, we have secured recoveries for more than 500,000 clients. My work to develop and drive the supporting infrastructure has allowed us to successfully serve this robust client base., 2022
  • Influenced legislation through California’s Senate Bill 707:  In our very first arbitration matters representing thousands of Uber drivers (in  Abadilla v. Uber) and Lyft drivers (in  Abarca v. Lyft), both in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, I was a key member of these case teams, preparing and writing briefs, filing these motions, and preparing for hearings. As a result of this work, the motions to compel arbitration in both the Uber and Lyft cases helped influence California’s legislature to take action to secure the rights to a speedy arbitration for consumers and employees. California’s Senate Bill 707 was enacted to ensure that companies can’t use delay tactics to stop consumers and employees from bringing claims against them. The Senate Judiciary’s April 22, 2019 report specifically cites Keller Postman’s arbitration cases as a reason to support the bill. And as of January 1, 2020, SB707 became effective., 2020
  • Argued precedent-setting summary judgments:  After Postmates was decidedly compelled to arbitration as a result of the ruling  in Adams v. Postmates  in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, Keller Postman moved into arbitration proceedings for 150 of our Postmates courier clients (amidst continued legal hearings to force Postmates to arbitrate with the remaining 5,000+ clients). During these arbitration proceedings, I took the lead in arguing two summary judgment motions regarding whether Postmates couriers are employees under California’s ABC test for contractor classification—a momentous moment for a young attorney. In both motions that went to oral argument (November 21, 2020 and March 22, 2021), the arbitrators found in our client’s favor. Throughout 2020 and into 2021, we have won over ten summary judgment motions on classification or related issues without oral argument. These topically related wins are significant, because it lays the foundation for Keller Postman to continue securing future favorable rulings for our clients in these matters with more reliability., 2020
  • Defended SB707 for the first time ever in Postmates v. 10,356 Individuals:  I was also a member of the Keller Postman attorney team that defended Senate Bill 707 for the first time ever. In  Postmates v. 10,356 Individuals, Postmates filed a motion to strike down SB 707 to avoid paying the arbitration fees for our clients, underpaid Postmates couriers. But Chief Judge Philip Gutierrez of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California ruled, on a matter of first impression, that SB 707 is not preempted by the Federal Arbitration Act and does not violate the Contracts Clause of the U.S. or California constitutions. As a result of that decision, my team and I were able to obtain remedies under the legislation for more than 5,000 workers., 2020
  • Obtained first decision upholding the validity of mass arbitration in Adams v. Postmates: I was an integral member of the case team that briefed the first major decision on the validity of mass arbitration. At the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, in Adams v. Postmates, Keller Postman secured a ruling that filing thousands of demands for arbitration against the same company did not violate Postmates’s class action waiver. On appeal, I helped defend the decision as the Ninth Circuit affirmed the District Court’s opinion within a few weeks after oral argument., 2019

Other Outstanding Achievements

  • I have worked on Keller Postman’s mass arbitration cases, particularly in the employment space, including a series of mass arbitrations against gig-economy companies. When I first joined the firm, I hit the ground running, writing briefs and motions and helping to craft the foundation of arguments in defense of our clients’ right to arbitration - and much of my work resulted in favorable resolutions for our clients. During my first years with the firm, my skills in process strategy and operations came to bear and proved a necessary asset to helping us build the foundation of our work. I helped scale our client services and technology operations from a spreadsheet and four employees to a full-scale operation., 2020
