After completing his undergraduate studies in English literature at Arizona State University in 1989, Mr. Bernstein attended the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology and received his Juris Doctor in 1993. He obtained his license to practice in Illinois the same year he graduated from law school. He is well-versed in Spanish and ensures no loss of communication when helping native Spanish speakers.

Outside his law practice, Mr. Bernstein is a board member of the Chicago chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and was a writing adviser at the University of Illinois College of Law, providing coaching to students on various stages of the legal writing process. In line with the endless well of empathy he has to offer, he takes on pro-bono work at Marjorie Kovler Center for Heartland Alliance, an organization committed to providing medical care and counseling for victims of torture.
